Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

Inspirational Moment was perfect, Thanks. Food for Thought - Really synchronized walking! Only in Japan, lol, but kinda neat.
-- Andy Adams, Rotary Club of Campbell River, District 5020

Synchronized walking – Amazing! Wherever do you find these videos?
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

October 6. Interesting presentation about the evolution of animals in cities. What will be the magpie that hides her peanuts in my mop behind my shed in 100 years, or the osprey that prefer chasing pigeons along the railroad instead of fishing?
-- Jean Michel Crepin, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Evolution in the city. I was so disheartened by the information about the rhinos that I couldn't even finish watching it! When are we are a people going to wake up and realize that we are destroying the very planet that sustains us! Thank goodness for Sammy Davis and Ella Fitzgerald! Their sweetness and light helped revive me.
-- Vicki Horsfield, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Announcements

November is Foundation Month
Why should you support the Rotary Foundation?

When every Rotarian donates to our Rotary Foundation every year, it makes Doing Good in the World possible.

Our Foundation’s Annual Fund provides the funding for local and international grant projects that improve lives around the world. Your contributions help us promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water and sanitation, save mothers and children, support education, grow local economies, and respond to disasters.

Thanks to Rotarians who give every year, we accomplished a lot in 2019-20:

* Rotarians gave $123.6 million to the Annual Fund.
* The Foundation awarded 1,359 global grants.

These life-changing, sustainable projects are possible because of donors like you, who take action and make a personal contribution to the Annual Fund. When every Rotarian gives every year, no challenge is too great for us to make a difference.

What is a satellite club in Rotary?

Satellite Clubs are an extension of the Host Rotary Club. They do not have their own charter, constitution or bylaws. They offer more flexibility to attract members that may not, and would not, ever join a traditional Rotary Club.

Satellite Clubs will simply be an extension of the Sponsor Club and offer an alternative meeting time and place to the Sponsor Club. A member of a Satellite Club is a member of the Sponsor Club and subject to the same rules as any other member.

Financial dues will be the same for both clubs but the Satellite Club may negotiate with the Sponsor Club to charge a different cost for weekly meetings. The Satellite Club may use a different formula to determine their member’s fees (weekly and annual) provided the Sponsor Club agrees and it provides a positive cash flow.

There are no minimum numbers required to form a Satellite Club other than the expectation that the club have sufficient numbers to conduct its meeting and programmes independently.

The Satellite Club will elect Officers to lead the club and run its weekly meetings; however, the administrative, membership, and financial returns of the Satellite Club are the responsibility of the Sponsor Club.

This week -  Schindler's List

Watch till the end, emotion guaranteed!

Davida Scheffers has lived her dream in winning a contest and the opportunity to play with the Dutch Orchestra. Davida suffers from an extremely painful neuromuscular condition that derailed her career, and she thought she would never get to play in a professional orchestra again.

The young blonde lady is her daughter and was 18 years old that day.

Speaker Program

Ishmael Beah comes to New York as a teenager after years of fighting as a child soldier in Sierra Leone and gets a second chance at childhood.

From Wikipedia: In 1991, the Sierra Leone Civil War started. Rebels invaded Beah's hometown, Mogbwemo, located in the Southern Province of Sierra Leone, and he was forced to flee. Separated from his family, he spent months wandering south with a group of other boys. At the age of 13, he was forced to become a child soldier.

According to Beah's account, he fought for almost three years before being rescued by UNICEF. Beah fought for the government army against the rebels.

In 1997, he fled Freetown by the help of UNICEF due to the increasing violence and found his way to New York City, where he lived with Laura Simms, his foster mother. In New York City, Beah attended the United Nations International School. After high school, he enrolled at Oberlin College and graduated in 2004 with a degree in Political Science.

Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.

We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.

As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
