Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

What keeps us healthy and happy. An amazing study. I think in the back of our mind we all had an idea that this happens. Enjoying and celebrating our relationships with family and friends will continue allow us to live the life we all want.
-- Larry Reynolds, Rotary Club of Campbell River Luncheon, District 5020

July 25. The friendship study is a wonderful one and really enjoyed the findings.
-- Sharon Blaker, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

What makes a good life? Robert Waldinger provides insight into one of the longest ongoing studies. It is the Harvard Study of Adult Development that has been taking place for 75 years. It involves finding the answers to what makes us truly happy.

So far the study which obtains results from men have found the most common answer is good relationships with others is the key to happiness and not wealth or notoriety. They keep us healthier and happier.

Loneliness has found to lead to shorter lives and less happy.
-- Michael Thomas, Rotary Club of Stony Plain, District 5370

July 31. I was surprised to learn about the trash tsunamis in Guatemala. The sheer amount of trash and damage to the environment was shocking. The interceptor fence was an amazing project with fantastic results for a pilot. I wonder, once they complete and strengthen/fortify the structure of the fence, how will they dispose of that volume of trash and where will it be taken?
-- Brenda Race, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

July 31. The TED talk on the study of men for 75 years by Harvard University was quite remarkable. One statement stands out, that it makes little difference about your cholesterol level at 50 whether you will live to 80 or not, it is much more about your personal relationships.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

August 2. BCI – Technology is amazing. Interesting talk on Credit Monitoring.
-- Neil Rogers, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

August 1. Even though I was taking a couple of days off to go to the beach, I didn't let that get in the way of doing our Rotary meeting. I love the "anywhere, any time" aspect of our club!!
-- Vicki Horsfield, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Orange Shirt Day - September 30

The Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) has been informed of a case of paralytic polio in an unvaccinated individual in Rockland County, New York, United States.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are coordinating with New York State health authorities on their investigation. Initial sequencing confirmed by CDC indicates that the case is type 2 VDPV.

Any form of poliovirus anywhere is a threat to children everywhere. It is critical that the GPEI Polio Eradication Strategy 2022-2026 is fully resourced and fully implemented everywhere, to ensure a world free of all forms of poliovirus can be achieved.

We are calling on every single Rotary member to take action and be a part of the fight to end polio, helping to raise $50 million per year for polio eradication.

Mike McGovern
Chair, International PolioPlus Committee

Little bit of service – Elly Contreras

Ramiro and I volunteered at the Annual Lobster Fest.

We assisted in setting up all the tables and decorated those with flowers and colourful napkins. This will likely be our last LBS in Osoyoos, but we are sure there will be lots of that in Mexico.

Humour

Johnny Carson in 1978 interviews Frank Abagnale – whose story was the subject of the movie “Catch Me if you Can!”

Though Mr. Abagnale’s story is no joke, this interview leaves you laughing at what seems to be an absurd impossibility.

The video is about 18 minutes – no need to watch it in its entirety – but if you want a laugh, you can always view the full episode.  It's a true story - without doubt.

Click here for a VERY SHORT update on Frank Abagnale in 2022.

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

July 22. Some amazing young girls on the program this week. The inspirational moment with Senna and her Lemons to lemonade story about helping seals by creating a fundraiser was really quite remarkable for such a young person. And Norwegian Angelina Jordan singing Bohemian Rhapsody was an amazing performance for a 13-year-old.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

July 18. Loved the Speaker program. Hanna definitely is a comedian!
-- Vicki Horsfield, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Loved the various aspects of the meeting this week. Food for thought – What is Media Literacy - Rotary Minute – Introducing a new member - Humour – New Members Corner and Rotary Jukebox. I enjoyed the variety of topics. Some very information. Some very entertaining.
-- Martin Secker, Rotary Club of Kingston, District 7040

3 Ideas 3 Contradictions with Hannah Gadsby. Certainly enjoyed her sense of humour and how difficult it was for her to follow through on her beliefs. A very brave person.
-- Larry Reynolds, Rotary Club of Campbell River Luncheon, District 5020

July 17 to 24. Enjoyed the lemonade story from the little girl (quite a motivational speaker already!) as well as the comedian speaker, Hannah Gadsby.
-- Brenda Race, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
