Did You Know Scarborough Makes Most of the World's Halls?

If you pick up a pack of Halls you'll be getting another little taste of home since they are made in Scarborough, Ontario.

The plant at Bertrand produced more than 6 billion pieces of "medicine" for the U.S. Last year – enough that if you lined them side-by-side they would circle the earth at the equator approximately 3.4 times.

Did You Know Winnipeg Mints Coins for Over 60 Countries?

Canada produces currency for more countries than you can imagine!

The Royal Winnipeg Mint produces coins for 60 different countries, including Centavos for Cuba, kroner for Norway, and pesos for Colombia.

Currently, the mint can produce over 20 million coins a day.

Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

April 26. The song selection "A Perfect Symphony" made my day! It was mesmerizing and just what I needed. Thanks!
-- Sharon Blaker, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

April 26. There is no doubt that social media has a big part to play in internet addiction and they admit it as a method to attract advertisers. In my situation, I found that my Apple Watch has removed my need to have my phone close by. I do not have to worry about missing an important text or message.
-- Jean Michel Crepin, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Internet addiction - glad to hear that this pervasive problem is being addressed!
-- Vicki Horsfield, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Addiction to Internet. Great meeting for me. Very motivational!
-- Lynne Ternosky, Rotary Club of D6330 Passport

May 3. Another great online RECCO meeting by Kitty. What a great job!
-- Janet Stead, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

May 2. I found the Perfect Symphony with Andre Bocelli and Ed Sheeran very touching!
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Are you a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member?

A Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member is a person who contributes US$100 or more per year to the Annual Programs Fund.

Rotarians recognize that without the sustained support of the Annual Programs Fund, the programs of The Rotary Foundation cannot happen. With contributions of US$100 from every member every year, Rotary could nearly double its efforts to help needy people the world over, supporting the continued growth of programs.

When you make a contribution to Rotary, you can be assured that your gift will be used to its fullest by Rotarians throughout the world.

Every Rotarian can become a Sustaining Member by making one or more gifts totaling at least US$100 each year. Each Sustaining Member gift to The Rotary Foundation is a gift of hope to those less fortunate. Every gift truly makes a difference in someone's life.

Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

April 18. It is exciting to hear how the 7th area of focus was added. Hopefully, it will attract additional funding.
-- Jean Michel Crepin, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

April 25. So much good stuff in the meeting this week. The history of Campobello Island was very interesting and how it became Franklin Roosevelt's summer home, and then Roosevelt’s war on polio. The TED talk on how life is not fair, but it is up to the individual to accept what life deals them and get on with it is what life is about.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

April 20. As we are unable to travel due to COVID, I really enjoyed the virtual travel to Campobello Island.
-- Sharon Blaker, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Tough Luck. What I enjoyed was the fact of knowing that there is a myth of "If you just live a good life, goods things will happen, and life will be fair." This is not true because we will experience hardships no matter what. It is how we deal with these hardships that will bring about our happiness.
-- Michael Thomas, Rotary Club of Stony Plain, District 5370

Food for thought

As a follow-up from a recent Thursday morning Coffee chat topic…

Since 2009, we have played a fundamental role in returning beavers to Scotland.

From releasing the first wild beaver in 2009, to completing a reinforcement project in 2020, our work has led to this keystone species becoming a legally-protected native species once again.

Why reintroduce beavers?

Eurasian beavers are a native species to the UK, but they were hunted to extinction in the 16th Century. They are one of the world’s most adept natural engineers, with an incredible ability to create new wetlands, restore native woodland and improve conditions for a wide range of species including dragonflies, otters and fish.

The return of beavers also provides ample wildlife tourism opportunity. Knapdale’s beavers have attracted visitors from around the world, bringing social and economic benefits to the area.
