Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

I learnt quite a few things at the meeting today, the Canadiana about insulin being administered in 1922 in Toronto was a revelation and to read that Pakistan is going to enlist the Army to carry out a polio immunisation and awareness campaign is good news.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

The acquired savant.  Enjoyed very much the greeter message from Tammy in Alert Bay and subsequent map and outline of the region.
--Lynne Ternosky, Rotary Club of District 6330 Passport

Jason Padquett was a victim of a beating outside a bar. the resulting brain injury tapped a special skill in how he sees things in mathematical pictures. The condition is called Acquired Savant. Most people never are able to tap into some of skills; however, it appears those with brain injuries can obtain higher than normal skills in specific areas than the average human. These skills become all-consuming for most and are OCD in nature.

Studies are being done to see if there can be some way of scientifically unleashing those hidden gifts we all have within our brains.
-- Michael Thomas, Rotary Club of Stony Plain, District 5370

What if everything you know is wrong. Smart man. If we remember that we still have so much to learn, we will learn so much!!
-- Vicki Horsfield, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

I just finished viewing the excellent weekly meeting.  Thank you, Sharon Blaker, for your dedication and hard work in crocheting the dishcloths, scarves and blankets, and for donating some of the proceeds to Project Amigo - a cause that is near and dear to my heart.

The video about Polio in America brought tears to my eyes.  Although our family was spared, I well-remember those days of polio scare.  My little sister’s best friend, Trudy, was afflicted with polio and had to always wear the braces. It was heartbreaking to see her struggle.

I am so proud of our past Rotary leaders for having the courage and foresight to tackle the fight against polio.  That is one of the reasons that I joined this great organization in 1992.  We are so close to finally eradicating this dreadful disease.  I have just made a $500 donation to TRF polio fund, and I challenge all who read this comment to make a donation too - every dollar will help.
-- Judy Brown, PDG Rotary District 5370 and Director, Rotary EClub Canada One

Attended regular weekly RECCO meeting featuring presentation on Rotary involvement in polio eradication. This was a great presentation. I have no doubt that Rotary will succeed in the elimination of this disease from the world, no matter how long it takes. A true gift to mankind.
-- Keith Evans, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

While at sea, it took 75 minutes to look at that Polio video with many stop-load-go but a very worthwhile and educational video about the dedication and vision of some Rotarians who could not accept no for answer and made the impossible possible.
--Jean Michel Crepin, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Speaker Program

Growing up in England, Pico Iyer was taught that the point of a game was to win. Now, some 50 years later, he's realized that competition can be "more like an act of love."

In this charming, subtly profound talk, he explores what regular games of ping-pong in his neighborhood in Japan have revealed about the riddle of winning -- and shows why not knowing who's won can feel like the ultimate victory.
