Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

December 12. It was amazing to hear the funny and inspiring speech by Past President of RI, Cliff Dochterman. I was fortunate to have been given a copy of the ABC's of Rotary by Cliff Dochterman shortly after I joined Rotary, and they provided me a valuable reference to learn about the history of Rotary, its customs, and traditions.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

December 13 – Plant-based diet. In Alberta, Canada, and in North America, we have a significant number of voters and activists that will need to be convinced that we need to change their habits.

December 22. After the heavy snow and the attraction of reach food for the holidays, the presentation on healthy heating was not that welcome. The positive side is that we will not need to be convinced to go back to healthy eating without feeling guilty.

December 29. Looking at the recycling army in Brazil, it might be a good consideration to increase the return price of recyclable cans and bottles. The price of cardboard is going up and the more we encourage the removal of recyclable waste, the cleaner our world will be. Now, can someone find a way to encourage the removal of disposable masks from our street?
-- Jean Michel Crepin, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Plant-based diet.  A wonderful and necessary education. Loved the Food for thought - we tend to be so quick to judge just by the cover, and often miss the richness that lies beneath. Good joke about Computer Gender. I would have said computers are female because they know everything!
-- Vicki Horsfield, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Healthy Eating. We need to change how we eat to prevent chronic diseases. This will involve switching to a plant-based instead of dairy and meat. Exercise, exercise, and exercise...
-- Michael Thomas, Rotary Club of Stony Plain, District 5370

Conflict and violence displace millions of people each year. Half of those killed in conflict are children, and 90 percent are civilians.

We refuse to accept conflict as a way of life. Rotary projects provide training that fosters understanding and provides communities with the skills to resolve conflicts.

How Rotary makes help happen?

Through our service projects, peace fellowships, and scholarships, our members are taking action to address the underlying causes of conflict, including poverty, inequality, ethnic tension, lack of access to education, and unequal distribution of resources.

Visit the Rotary International Promoting Peace page and help us make a difference…

Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

How cities are detoxing transportation. It is nice that these people applaud governments in the move to electric battery powered vehicles, but their timelines are unrealistic.

In the case of Britain alone, Michael Kelly, the Emeritus Prince Philip Professor of Technology at the University of Cambridge, says if we replace all of the UK vehicle fleet with EVs, assuming they use the most resource-frugal next-generation batteries, we would need the following materials:

About twice the annual global production of cobalt; Three-quarters of the world’s production lithium carbonate; Nearly the entire world production of neodymium; More than half the world’s production of copper in 2018, plus What may be needed to produce and store all the electricity for these vehicles.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Loved the children’s choir, the Canada tourism film, the Christmas Story, and Past Rotary President talk. I really enjoyed the speaker. He was great!!
-- Diane Ellis, Rotary Club of Saint City, St. Albert, Alberta

Dr. Michael Parkinson, Healthy eating. We can never hear too often mindfulness, plant-based proteins, and exercise, but we must take action as well.
-- Lynne Ternosky, Rotary Club of D6330 Passport

December 20. Past RI President Cliff Dochterman’s presentation was both entertaining and educational. The story of the brick was to the point.
-- Jean Michel Crepin, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Robert Hoge has worked as a journalist, a speechwriter, a science communicator for the CSIRO and a political advisor to the former Queensland Premier and Deputy Premier.

While he never went far with his professional lawn bowls career, Robert did carry the Olympic torch in 2000. He is married and lives in Brisbane with an eleven-year-old daughter who thinks his Olympic torch would make a really great cricket bat.
