Current Club President, Sharon

As September approaches, we need to think of the September theme.

Inspirational moment

When I was seven, my family drove to the Grand Canyon. At one point, my favorite blanket flew out the window and was gone. I was devastated.

Soon after, we stopped at a service station. Moping, I found a bench and was about to eat my sandwich when a biker gang pulled into the station. “Is that your blue Ford?” a huge, frightening man with a gray-and-black beard asked.

Mom nodded reticently. The man pulled my blanket from his jacket pocket and handed it to her. He then returned to his motorcycle.

I repaid him the only way I knew how: I ran up to him and gave him my sandwich. —Zena Hamilton, United Kingdom

Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

The future of personal energy use – Scott Sklar. Great talk on personal power, communication, and personal security are all coming together around the world. This is especially true and energy supplies and the new technologies developed from solar, wind and renewable resources.

Also, from War to Peace by Chocolate. Interesting episode about how new immigrants are mostly refugees. They are not pressured immediately and given time to adjust before having to firmly establish themselves.
-- Michael Thomas, Rotary Club of Stony Plain, District 5370

June 25. The TED talk by Scott Sklar was quite thought provoking but the return on investment of some of these "gadgets" as he calls them is very long term. A relative in Wales is building a house and putting in solar panels and the supplier estimates the payback at 13 years. With electricity prices here, I estimate the payback would be 20 years or more so you really have to be thinking long term.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Speaker program – Peace by Chocolate. I learned and enjoyed the knowledge and desire to succeed that new Canadians can bring to this country.
-- Martin Secker, Rotary Club of Kingston, District 7040

June 30. I've been a fan and follower of Peace by Chocolate, so it was great to finally get a chance to see the movie trailer, as well as the TV episode. I look forward to seeing the movie!
-- Brenda Race, E-club of Canada One, District 5370

July 1. Peace By Chocolate has made look at Chocolate in a whole new light. I read a book a few years ago about the history of chocolate, the involvement of child labour, and Quaker families controlled much of it for years.
-- Jim Kenyon, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

New members' corner

The thought persisted that I was experiencing only what had happened to hundreds, perhaps thousands, in the great city…

I was sure there must be many other young men who had come from farms and small villages to establish themselves in Chicago…

Why not bring them together? If others were longing for fellowship as I was, something would come of it.
