Comments from our guests and members
Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?
Wonderful choice
of music. Karen Carpenter had one of the purest voices in music.
She brought a horrible disease to people's attention.
-- Jim Kenyon,
E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
It is hard to
comprehend the projected rise in sea levels due to the melting of Greenland and
Arctic ice.
-- David Werrett,
E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
Talking trash in
Yangon. I am still floored when people I see people buy bottled water! I have
heard it said: "Uou are not buying water, you are buying plastic!"
When will we realize we have to stop!
What if
everything you know is wrong. Smart man. If we remember that we still have so
much to learn, we will learn so much!!
-- Vicki Horsfield,
E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
Talking
Trash. It was interesting to hear how
the speaker tried to motivate others to move from inaction to action regarding
becoming better stewards of the Earth.
-- Velma Noble,
RCCHP, District 5360
What if everything you know is wrong. Why did it take
me 70 minutes to get through this meeting? Maybe as Bob McDonald tries to tell
us, there is so much more around us. Every time I click on another link or
"read more," a world of new information gets the curious me to
another link.
-- Jean Michel
Crepin, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
What if
everything you know is wrong: Bob
MacDonald. First off, fascinating when
you think this was presented six years ago – and how much has changed even
since then! Never mind 6million years from now, what will we look like 60
years from now. A very thought-provoking program – thank you!
-- John Wojcicki,
Rotary Club of Edmonton, District 5370

Please feel free to forward an approx. 150 - 200-word message or any material suggestions in an e-mail, or in a Word document, along with a JPeg picture or two, to E-Club Administration Chair, Kitty Bucsko.
We'd love to hear from you!
We went for a
walk on the weekend and took some pictures in the Calgary Memorial Day park. It's official name is "Field of Crosses." The temperature while we visited was -12 C.
The stories we read and the pictures - all were very moving to read in spite of the cold. It was difficult to leave. This is especially true since many of those who died did so on the soil where I was born.

Rotary minute
The first years
of the Rotary Club (source: Wikipedia)
The first Rotary
Club was formed when attorney Paul P. Harris called together a
meeting of three business acquaintances in downtown Chicago, United
States, at Harris's friend Gustave Loehr's office in the Unity Building on
Dearborn Street on February 23, 1905.
In addition to Harris and Loehr
(a mining engineer and freemason), Silvester Schiele (a coal merchant), and
Hiram E. Shorey (a tailor) were the other two who attended this first meeting.
The members chose the name Rotary because initially they rotated subsequent
weekly club meetings to each other's offices, although within a year, the
Chicago club became so large it became necessary to adopt the now-common
practice of a regular meeting place.
The first four Rotarians:
Gustavus Loehr, Silvester Schiele, Hiram E. Shorey, Paul P. Harris.
Food for thought
From comic books and radio programs to TV shows and Atari games, the world has always been full of things that distract us. Today most of us blame our phones or, more specifically, social media, Words with Friends, or Netflix as the reason we can’t get anything done. Yet these aren’t the real culprit, according to technology expert Nir Eyal.
Instead, our distraction is usually driven by our desire to escape discomfort, including boredom, fear and anxiety. When you binge on The Office instead of doing your taxes, watching Michael, Pam and Dwight is your way of avoiding an activity you find tedious. The secret to staying focused at times like these is not to abstain from The Office — you’ll just find another distraction — but to change your perspective on the task itself.
Below, Eyal explains how.

Program Donations
Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.
Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.
We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.
As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
