Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

July 3. The story of Syrian refugee Tareq Hadhad and his family was very moving and must be very inspiring to all new Canadian immigrants.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

June 27. Shekhar Mehta's message at the Rotary Convention was very impactful. I learned a lot more about what Rotary is doing around the world. I am going to investigate more about the Menstrual Hygiene Management Program.
July 4. I loved the Audacious Project and Ms. Araya’s message of urgency!
-- Vicki Horsfield, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Electricity transportation and environment. Planning to have most vehicles fully electric by 2035 with others to follow by 2050. The speaker did not discuss how and where to dispose of the old batteries, however.
-- Martin Secker, Rotary Club of Kingston, District 7040

July 12. Wonder where Charlie Cooper (inspirational moment) is now? He was 9 years in 2014 and had an 'idea'! Does he still have great ideas? The Buddy Benches are an idea my restorative practice organization adopted around that time! I also really enjoyed and appreciated RI President Jennifer Jones' very important message on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
-- Sharon Blaker, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

"Little Bit of Service"

The bit of service involved restoring a garden seat for 2 seniors. The seniors just happen to be my Mother and Father-in-Law.

Being outside all summer for many years the varnish was in poor condition and one of the cross supports was cracked and required repairing. The top of the back both sides had weathered away and required lots of filler.

So Sharon and I set to work on the restoration and the Seniors seemed pleased with our efforts. Now they will be able to enjoy their garden seat for a few more years.

Additional support required

Screwing in the new support

Some glue required

Sanding off the old varnish

The second coat of varnish

The owners, Mike & Pearl, enjoying the refurbished seat.

Humour

What do Alexander the Great and Winnie the Pooh have in common? Same middle name.

What is the opposite of a croissant? A happy uncle.

If April showers bring May flowers, what do May flowers bring? Pilgrims.

Which branch of the military accepts toddlers? The infantry.

Did you know you can actually listen to the blood in your veins? You just have to listen varicosely.

What's the opposite of irony? Wrinkly.

I finally decided to sell my vacuum cleaner. All it was doing was gathering dust!

When you die, what part of the body dies last? The pupils...they dilate.

A friend of mine went bald years ago, but still carries around an old comb. He just can't part with it.

You know there's no official training for trash collectors? They just pick things up as they go along.

What do you call a woman who sets fire to all her bills? Bernadette.

New members' corner

Welcome to Rotary!

Rotary is proud to welcome you - all of you - to our global community of more than 1.2 million men and women dedicated to building a better world.

You make Rotary stronger.

By adding your skills, experience, and enthusiasm to your club, you can advance communities at home and on a global scale.

Together, we can eradicate polio, train more skilled peacemakers, and provide lasting solutions for communities fighting disease, hunger, illiteracy, and poverty.

Through the Rotary community, you can exchange ideas and build lifelong friendships with people who share your passion for service.

Take advantage of the resources and activities available through your club, district, and Rotary International to make your experience with Rotary both rewarding and fun.

How do I start?

Get the most out of your membership by participating in club projects and activities.

Here are some ideas:

• Serve on a club committee where you can use your skills
• Identify a need in your community and suggest a hands-on project to address it
• Work with a youth service program sponsored by your club, such as Rotaract or Interact
• Host a Youth Exchange student
• Help organize your district’s Rotary Youth Leadership Awards programs
• Recommend a colleague or friend for membership in your club

THIS WEEK - A drum treat

Contributed by Jim Kenyon, who writes: “After seeing the brief appearance this week in the meeting of HM Royal Marine Drum Corps...here’s a clip of them in a “fight” with the Top Secret Drum Corps of Switzerland. Isn’t this really how fights should be conducted…”

Program Donations

Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.

Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.

We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.

As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
