Inspirational Moment

Canadiana

After Hurricane Irma struck the leeward islands, including Anguilla, on September 6, 2017, with a Category 5 strength, the entire island was without electricity for four months.

The only reason that Anguilla was returned to full power before Christmas, 2017, was because of these Canadian hydro workers below.

The UK government paid to have 30 Canadian linesmen shipped to Anguilla and other British islands, along with the heavy equipment required for the repairs.

In Anguilla, someone prepared a calendar to commemorate the activities and to raise funds for local repairs.  Some of the photos from that calendar are shown below – true Canadiana!

And these Canadians were a truly welcome sight!

Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

Jon Lowenstein.  Through his photography and presentation, Jon Lowenstein highlights the importance of journalism. In today's world, the importance of a strong and independent press is ever more important.

Jon Lowenstein.  How intolerant our world is becoming, and how so many people turn their backs on those in need.
-- Sue Croft, Rotary Club of Barrie, District 7010

Frugal Innovations. I see people in poverty doing this every day. Because they don’t have much, they have no choice but to make the little they have serve them for a lot.

Rotary minute

Here is a Rotary Minute from Rotary Club of Palgrave
And it’s a Canadian Club!

By Gary Walters

As Rotarians, we receive monthly publications titled “The Rotarian”. One is international and one focusses on Canadian Clubs. Each edition is filled with the stories of wonderful projects to support humanity all across the globe. Projects ranging from small, localized initiatives to better one’s own community to those that take the world by storm (think Polio Plus).

While reading through these magazines, it struck me that every good deed, every successful project was all started by ONE person who had a passion for an idea.

They then brought that idea to their Club which enabled the passion to spread and the idea then became a project.

Sometimes, it spreads from Club to Club and becomes much bigger than even the original passionate soul could have imagined.

That is the power of passion and Rotary.

Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.

We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.

As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
