Comments from our guests and members
Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?
Navi Radjou. The topic discussed was on frugal innovation.
Inventions in some countries were developed because of not making do but out of
limited resources.
A man in India
made a fridge of clay that kept fruits and vegetables fresh for days with no
energy required. In Lima Peru where the
humidity is high but there is less than 1 " of rainfall a year a person
invented a billboard that absords humidty and produces 90 litres a water a day.
-- Michael Thomas,
Rotary Club of Stony Plain, District 5370
Very interesting
TED talk by the photographer who has witnessed so many trying to get to another
country in the hope of having a better life.
-- David Werrett,
E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
Cyber Crime
Fighter. Caleb Barlow from IBM talks
about the different forms of. Cyber crime and how it has become a $ 450
economy. Companies need to be willing to
share their real time intel on threats and how they are dealing with fighting
the criminals to be able to stop them.
-- Michael Thomas,
Rotary Club of Stony Plain, District 5370
Caleb
Barlow. Where is CyberCrime really
coming from? Great timing for me to
attend this meeting – I just got a call with a recorded voice that says I’m
going to jail because of an issue with Service Canada and I have to speak with
a Magistrate or the sky will fall on my head! Press 1. This program
provided a very important message which needs to be shared – thank you! Oh for
the good ‘ol days when spam was just a lunch meat!!
-- John Wojcicki,
Rotary Club of Edmonton, District 5370
Caleb
Barlow. It is an empowering perspective
to understand that we can approach cybercrime like to tackle a medical/health
crisis (i.e., sharing timely info re who is infected & how is disease
spreading).
-- Velma Noble,
RCCHP, District 5360

CAKE #1
Here is the
recipe handwritten by my friend Jean Scott who was an amazing woman! She died in 2015, two months before her 103rd
birthday and battled cancer twice and
received numerous federal, provincial and university awards for her work with
labour unions and as an advocate for equality and fairness for all, especially
women and children! This was her mom's
recipe. Her mom also lived to a very old
age! She was a dear friend of ours and a
mentor to me. Our four daughters always
loved to have a visit and tea with Jean.
This time of the
year is difficult as she was a gifted pianist and our family had many Christmas
sing-a-longs with her.
I make two kinds
of cakes, bake them in small loaf pans, and spread the joy to family and friends. My husband is a fan of Christmas cake so it
doesn't last long!
CAKE #2
This is
a cake that I have been making for 25 years but it is not "Jean's"
cake. With all my cakes, I use a skewer
and poke holes and pour a little Cointreau, brandy, or rum over them. Then I wrap them in saran wrap or cheesecloth,
then in foil, and store in a cool place.
I make my cakes no later than six weeks before Christmas, preferably eight
weeks.

Program Donations
Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.
Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.
We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.
As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
