Amazing story
about Polio. I agree with Kitty, that this should be shared by all Rotarians.
-- Elly Contreras,
E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
Jon describes the
migrant trail through his journey of photography. The migrant trail is close to
his heart since his own family roots migrated from Europe, all starting during
the Nazi regime. Jon's family was and is Jewish. His grandfather had to have
his appendix removed on his own kitchen table in 1939 because no hospital would
perform surgery or treat a Jew. This led to him sending his children to England
and away from the suppression.
Therefore his
understanding of migrant central Americans is real to him and his understanding
of how people will ultimately search for a better way of life to avoid harsh
brutal conditions that thy or a loved can suffer in a split second.
-- Michael Thomas,
Rotary Club of Stony Plain, District 5370
The migrant
trail. Every North American needs to watch this Ted talk. The migrants don’t
want to leave their country. If we who live in more affluent cultures would
help these people with basic needs - education, shelter and safety - they would
choose to stay!
-- Vicki Horsfield,
E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
Jon
Lowenstein. I enjoy the mix of ideas
that you present from the serious stories like Jon’s of the migrant trail and
the background on vaccination, lightened by a little humour and great guitar
playing. Thanks.
-- Graham Drake, RC
of Calgary Heritage Park, District 5360

New cases of
polio linked to the oral vaccine have been reported in four African countries
and more children are now being paralysed by vaccine-derived viruses than those
infected by viruses in the wild, according to global health numbers.
The World Health
Organization (WHO) and partners identified nine new cases caused by the vaccine
in Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic and
Angola last week. Along with seven other African countries with outbreaks,
cases have also been reported in Asia. In Afghanistan and Pakistan polio remains
endemic, and in Pakistan officials have been accused of covering
up vaccine-related cases.

Program Donations
Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.
Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.
We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.
As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
