Inspirational moment

Sweden beats Canada when it comes to garbage performance — that is, they do a better job of recycling their waste.

As part of the Reduce, Reuse, Rethink series, CBC News puts the spotlight on Sweden, where so little garbage is ending up in landfills that they now import waste from other countries so it can be burned to generate heat and electricity.

CBC News visited the Renova waste-to-power station in Gothenburg where each year the plant provides 30 per cent of district heating in the region's network, and 5 per cent of the electricity needs of Gothenburg's population.

However, not everyone agrees that Sweden's incineration program is the best example of reusing and recycling.

Canadiana

Indigenous people have a long and proud tradition of military service in Canada. From the earliest days before Canada was even a country of its own, through the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War, post-war peace support efforts, Afghanistan and on to the present day, thousands of First Nations, Métis, Inuit and other Indigenous men and women have served bravely and well in uniform.

Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

Inspirational Moment - inspires the gift of giving.    Also excellent and insightful article “On the Tracks of the Beast.”  Great to see fellow Campbell River Rotarian Janet Koch win the Rotary Guest winner!

And the Humour – A Millennial Job Interview.  Classic!  I love it!  Also, good to see Doug Dyer as he continues his travels and adventures.
-- Andy Adams, Rotary Club of Campbell River, District 5020

Peace  Pipe Project Proposal (Yogi Reppsonn).  I enjoy learning about sociological research studies that attempt to preserve important history with peace pipes as central theme and Rotary being engaged in the historical documentation process.
-- Velma Noble, Rotary Club of Calgary, District 5360

The Peace Pipe Proposal video is an interesting piece of Rotary history.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

So nice to see Delwen’s message about the Fellowships.  David’s involvement in the Caravanning Fellowship and Sharon’s contribution to the Jukebox.  This is what Rotary is all about – involvement from our fellow members.
-- Elly Contreras, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Nora McInerny.  Wow!  Just wow!  Her words of wisdom on grief are still echoing.  Thank you for bringing this to a meeting!
-- Lori Pollock, Swan City Rotary Club, District 5370

Moving On with Grief.  I love the variety of your programs – from the Canadiana to the cartoon and songs to the moving program on grief.  I especially appreciated your sharing the story of the Haydn Society concert and the boy who was so affected by the music.  I’d heard the story on NPR, was happy to see it on your site.  Thanks for being there for us!
-- Judy Redpath, Rotary Club of Herndon, Virginia, District 7610

Nora McInerny.  The re-enforcement of being a Rotarian.  We can do much – -- make an effort.
-- Wayne Lannon, Rotary Club of Westlock, Alberta.  District 5370

Food for thought

In 2017 an invaluable program started by former NHL Player Joé Juneau was cancelled. During the 11 years the NYHDP (Nunavik Youth Hockey Development Program) operated, the benefits for the kids of Nunavik were immeasurable.

These kids are the future Inuit leaders; let's show them that someone cares.

Rotary Jukebox

Every week we'll have a draw and the lucky person will see their song featured

How do you define "nature?"

If we define it as that which is untouched by humans, then we won't have any left, says environmental writer Emma Marris. She urges us to consider a new definition of nature -- one that includes not only pristine wilderness but also the untended patches of plants growing in urban spaces -- and encourages us to bring our children out to touch and tinker with it, so that one day they might love and protect it.

Program Donations

Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.

Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.

We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.

As you  have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
