Angel Flight East Kootenay was founded in April 2019 by Brent Bidston (Ret. Airline Captain), and is an entirely volunteer-led charitable organization with no paid employees. Our mission is to fly residents of the East Kootenays to medical appointments in Kelowna, for free!
As a registered charity we are currently accepting donations to be able to continue offering free flights. Every donation goes a long way, and you can choose to have a tax receipt for your donation if you would like.
In Canada, we know the power of small beginnings. A few voyageurs pushing canoes into the St. Lawrence. A single spike driving the last rail that stitched our nation coast to coast. A maple seed, barely bigger than a fingernail, that grows into a towering tree.
The Rotary Foundation shares that same spirit. In 1917, Rotarians set aside just $26.50 “for doing good in the world.” Today, it has become a global force—funding projects that provide clean water, support education, advance peace, and bring us closer than ever to ending polio.
Here in Canada, we’ve seen how those grants translate into action: literacy programs in Indigenous communities, clean water systems in the North, medical training partnerships that link our universities with clinics around the world.
This November, let’s remember that our Canadian story is one of perseverance, partnership, and generosity—just like Rotary’s.
Every contribution, no matter how small, is a maple seed that can take root and grow into something that shelters generations to come.

Comments from our guests and members
Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?
October 14. It's cheaper to house the homeless - and a Canadian hospital has the economic data to prove it.
It all began when Dr. Andrew Boozary and his team at Toronto's University Health Network discovered that about 100 patients accounted for more than 4,500 emergency department visits in one year.
So last October they opened Dunn House, a 51-unit modular housing building that offers supportive housing to people experiencing homelessness.
The Toronto Star writes: "Boozary’s pitch was straightforward: the cost of a hospital bed for a month was at least $30,000, he’d say. A supportive housing unit, after the upfront price, cost between $2,000 and $5,000 per month."
They illustrate this with a lengthy discussion with resident Jason Miles, who is now leading a structured, healthy and happy life.
When he was living on the streets he cost the taxpayer at least $260,000 from 2021 to 2024, not counting policing, ambulances and court costs.
Dr. Boozary says estimates for Dunn House put the cost at around $4,000 per person per month, or $48,000 per year.
Overall, early findings show the supportive housing location saves $2 million in healthcare costs every year.
A preventative approach like Dunn House not only allows individuals to live healthier lives, but can use precious public funds in a more effective way for everyone.
Failing to address homelessness is an inhumane and irresponsible waste of public money.
Diabetes and well-being is the theme for World Diabetes Day 2025. The campaign focus for 14 November is “Diabetes and the workplace.” With appropriate access to care and support for their well being, everyone with diabetes has the chance to live well.
World Toilet Day celebrates the importance of toilets and
raises awareness of the 3.5 billion people still living without safely managed
sanitation. It’s also about taking action to tackle the global water and sanitation crisis, which has a profound impact on public health, education,
gender equity, and persistent inequalities.
