Comments from our guests and members

Welcome, everyone!

December is Rotary’s Month for Disease Prevention and Treatment — a time to recognize the vital role Rotarians play in improving health and well-being around the world.

As you scroll through today’s meeting, take a moment to reflect on how Rotary helps prevent illness, support mental and physical health, and strengthen communities through education, care, and compassion.

From fighting polio to promoting healthy living, Rotary’s work reminds us that lasting change begins with caring for people — one life, one community at a time.

And please, consider leaving us a comment!  Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us.

Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following is one of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

November 12 – A Teacher saw Me – not my Problems. The speaker program this week brought back wonderful memories of a favourite teacher of mine from Junior High. Thank you for the memories.

District Fall Assembly

District 5370 Fall Assembly November 8, 2025
Submitted by PDG James Ferguson, Charter RECCO Member

RECCO President-Elect Patrick Gibson, Membership Chair Lois Hannam, and I attended the Rotary District 5370 Fall Assembly on November 8, 2025, held at the Chateau Louis Convention Centre in Edmonton, Alberta.

It was a fun-filled day of learning and fellowship, where DGE Jeanette Bancarz,
DG Ramesh Ferris and the district chairs did presentations to the group.

I highly recommend attendance at this important event, as all the district leaders are there to provide guidance to the Rotary Club leaders, and it’s a great opportunity to get any questions answered by them in person.

Humour

A defendant was on trial…

There was strong evidence indicating guilt, but there was no corpse.

In the defense’s closing statement, his lawyer, knowing that his client would probably be convicted resorted to a trick.

“Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I have a surprise for you all.” the lawyer said, as he looked at his watch.

“Within one minute, the person presumed dead in this case will walk into this courtroom.”

He looked toward the courtroom door.

The jurors, somewhat stunned, all looked on eagerly.

A minute passed. Nothing happened.

Finally, the lawyer said, “Actually, I made up the previous statement…”

“But you all looked on with anticipation…”

“I therefore put to you that you have a reasonable doubt in this case as to whether anyone was killed.”

“...and I insist that you return a verdict of not guilty.”

The jury, clearly confused, retired to deliberate…

A few minutes later, the jury returned and pronounced a verdict of guilty.

“But how?” inquired the defense lawyer.

“You must have had some doubt.”

“I saw all of you stare at the door.”

The foreman of the jury replied, “Oh, we did look…”

“but your client didn’t.”
