Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

August 31. Lots of interesting information in the meeting this week. The item about the young president of the Blouberg, South Africa Rotary club was of particular interest as I have visited the club. In 2011 a member of the Blouberg club organised a tour of South Africa for members of the International Caravanning Fellowship of Rotarians, of which I am a member. The last night of the tour was a dinner with members of the Blouberg Club.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

September 3. Very inspirational speaker! I’m Possible!
-- Neil Rogers, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

August 7. I loved the piece on The Invincible Martha Black! I also like your setup – starting with the greeting by Neil Rogers. The story about the Sourtoe Cocktail Club was very interesting, but I don’t think I’ll be visiting. Also, the musical performance of Amazing Grace by Celtic Thunder was very good.
I’ve only used about 3 or 4 E-Clubs, but I feel this is the best. Keep up the good work!
-- Christopher Barbee, Rotary Club of El Campo, Texas, District 5890

Grandmother, 70, spends an entire year clearing plastic off 52 British beaches after making a New Year's resolution

A grandmother has spent an entire year cleaning every bit of plastic off 52 British beaches after making a New Year's resolution.

Pat Smith, 70, trawled Devon and Cornwall's iconic beaches armed with bin bags, rubber gloves and a little picker after she vowed to clean one sandy beach every week.

The married mother of two travelled from one end of the South West to the other, collecting litter in beauty spots from Coverack, Cornwall, to Blackpool Sands, Devon.

Pat Smith, 70 (pictured) trawled Devon and Cornwall’s iconic beaches armed with bin bags, rubber gloves, and a little picker after she vowed to clean one sandy beach every week.

And Mrs Smith has no intention of stopping - saying that the beaches need her.

Mrs Smith, founder of the environmental campaign group Final Straw Cornwall, said: “Doing 52 beach cleans in 2018 was my New Year's Resolution and it's finally done.

“I won't stop as our beaches need me.

“A lot of the rubbish I have picked up consists of everyday items. These things are used by all of us and it is shocking to find them polluting our beautiful beaches.

“Please let's try to be more thoughtful in this coming year.

“I'm driven to try and protect our living planet for my children and grandchildren and I will continue to do everything in my power to achieve that.”

When you contact a Dell support representative and discover that your machine might require a reinstallation of the Windows Operating System.

Here are the “simple” instructions – and you’re on your own.

I have included some instructions below on how we can use the Dell OS Recovery Tool to reinstall Windows.

All we'll need is an empty 16GB or more flash drive, and another system to download the tool onto.

*Please note, Dell is not responsible for any data loss*

Windows reinstallation online instructions:

We can install the Dell OS Recovery Tool here onto another system: https://dl.dell.com/FOLDER06806087M/1/Dell-USB-Recovery-Tool-Application_63KFY_WIN_2.3.6096.0_A00.EXE

When the tool is downloaded and installed, Insert the USB into the computer.

Select for another PC and then enter in the service tag for the computer that needs the Operating System.

Then it will bring you to a screen that wants you to pick an operating system, Please select the Windows 10 option on the furthest most right.
(Even though the current system is Windows 11.)

Next we let the tool create a Bootable device for the system that needs the Operating system.

Once the tool is done, go ahead and close it and once the program is closed, remove the USB from the system.

Insert the USB into the system that needs the new Operating System.

Make sure the System is off, and have the USB plugged in.

These next steps are very important please read before continuing.

Power on the system and repeatedly hit the F12 Key on the keyboard.

This will open a one-time boot menu, and when this opens, find the option of the USB.

Select it using the arrows on the keyboard then hit enter to go into the USB.

Once the system boots into the USB follow the prompts.

Click Troubleshoot, Then Recover from a drive, then Reset and Update.

Once you're at the Windows Setup, Where it wants you to select the drive.

Delete all the partitions and then select the last one.

Follow the rest of the prompts for Windows to install.

These are the steps to install your Operating System. If you have any issues or questions please feel free to email me back and we will get it taken care of!

Thank you for choosing Dell Technologies.

By Janet Gray and Ann Davidson

Being a Rotarian offers you an opportunity to give back not only in your local community but internationally as well.

In 2010, we travelled to India to help administer polio immunizations. We spent one whole day visiting a local town where we mingled among the locals seeking out young children who needed the vaccine. After we gave them the polio drops, we marked their little finger nail with a marker which would show to any other volunteers coming after us that this child has already received her vaccine. We also went aboard buses and looked about the local stalls and shops to check for any children whom we might have missed.

We visited many hospitals that are sponsored by Rotary. One was an amputee hospital where limbs are provided to those that have suffered from polio, one was an eye hospital, and another was a blood bank. All of these were beautiful, modern hospitals and were completely free to the local people who normally could not afford treatment, thanks to the Rotary sponsors.

We visited some local schools that have a feeding programme sponsored by Rotary and also many orphanages.

We also attended a reception where our “Palgrave Rotary Club” was thanked personally by the children and relatives for Healing Little Hearts. These are children that received life-saving heart surgery sponsored by our Club in cooperation with the Cambridge Rotary Club.

We saw many more activities that the Rotary Clubs in India are responsible for. It is unbelievable to see these many Clubs (with hundreds of members in each) do such great work for their country and local communities.

We left our hearts in India and both of us would like to go back again someday.
