Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

The unheard story of David and Goliath – Malcolm Gladwell. We have been told the story of David and Goliath; however, some important details have been left out, one of which that David was most likely a part of the artillery because he was armed with a sling. The men were trained and experienced to the point in which they could hit a bird in flight. Another thing is that the projectile could be travelling 35m/sec. The stones, most likely being basalt with its density, the end result would be deadly.
Goliath could have suffered from giantism which comes with slow movement and, in most cases, vision problems such as double vision and nearsightedness. The combination of all of this would put David at an actual advantage.
-- Michael Thomas, Rotary Club of Stony Plain, District 5370

Malcolm Gladwell – David and Goliath. I found it interesting the interpretation and thought about David and Goliath. Sometimes, giants are not as strong as they seem. In life, we all meet obstacles; and how we deal with them makes a huge difference in the outcome.
-- Lynne Ternosky, Rotary Club of D6330 Passport

November 8. I enjoyed the history of the 4 Way Test and the piece on the World's Greatest Meal. I think both are worth sharing with my friends and family.
-- Margaret Shane, Rotary Club of Saint City St. Albert, District 5370

November 1 and 8. A few weeks ago we learnt about the underground railroad with slaves escaping to freedom in Canada, and then on this week's TED talk learning that today there still 45 million people in slavery throughout the world.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

November 2 and 8. Interesting to learn more about Goliath. One thing the speaker omitted was that David was willing to fight because the Philistines had insulted God, and David believed God would protect him.
Human trafficking. When my daughter was 4 years old (blonde, adorable), we had just reached the top of the escalator in a department store when a man approached me and said, "I'll give your $10,000 for her." I laughed it off and said, "She's worth a million," and walked away. It wasn't until a few years later that I realized what that encounter was about.
I often replay the scene in my mind, thinking about what I should have done and would do now - screamed for help, kicked him in the knee so he couldn't get away, whatever was necessary to ensure that he was captured and charged. It is so hard to understand the cruelty that people will carry out, just for the sake of money!

-- Vicki Horsfield, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Program Donations

Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.

Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.

We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.

As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
