Comments from our guests and members
Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?
I know someone
just like Kara Logan Berlin and I appreciate her dedication to her cause. I
could not do that; and at the same time, I find that giving money is not as
rewarding as being part of the project, if at all possible. If one can do both,
the rewards are exponential. Building those shelves for Vicki's student
families, as well as buying the supplies and other construction material, was a
humbling experience.

The Battle of
Nepean Point is another interesting take on where we are at as a nation in our
attempt at reconciliation. The Roundabout in “Food for Thought” was crazy!

A creative look
at the Four-Way Test
By Dennis Wong,
Co-Founder of the Rotarian Action Group for Peace and member of the E-Club of
World Peace
Imagine yourself
addressing conflicts through the lenses of fellowship, empathy, accountability, and trust. That is the Four-Way Test.
Imagine the power four questions
and twenty-four words can have to help resolve conflicts without violence and
fulfill our Rotary peace mission.
The Four-Way Test
is Rotary’s unique approach and process to address conflicts, solve problems
and make decisions to achieve desired outcomes. It can help us be more
successful in reaching mutually beneficial, sustainable and scalable solutions.
The Four-Way Test
has been a go-to for Rotary members when they have found themselves in
difficult situations. With the Rotarian Code of Conduct, it is an ethical and
effective guide for Rotary members to use for their personal and professional
relationships.
Furthermore, the concepts of conflict transformation embrace
many of the Rotary principles. The Test is about fellowship, empathy,
accountability, and trust.

Rotary minute
A young couple
moved into a new neighbourhood.
The next morning
while they were eating breakfast, the young woman saw her neighbor hanging the
washing outside.
“That laundry is
not very clean; she doesn’t know how to wash correctly. Perhaps she needs
better laundry soap.”
Her husband
looked on, remaining silent.
Every time her
neighbour hung her washing out to dry, the young woman made the same comments.
A month later,
the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her
husband, “Look, she’s finally learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who
taught her this?”
The husband
replied, “I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows.”
And so it is with
life…
What we see when
watching others depends on the clarity of the window through which we look.
So don’t be too
quick to judge others, especially if your perspective of life is clouded by
anger, jealousy, negativity or unfulfilled desires.
“Judging a person
does not define who they are. It defines who you are.”

Bicycle
ambulances are saving lives in rural parts of Africa. Thanks to funding from a
Kent Rotary club, the charity Transaid is able to extend its work to improve
healthcare in these communities.

People living in
rural areas of Africa often struggle to access vital services.
Around 75% of
maternal deaths can be avoided through timely access to vital
childbirth-related care, so the provision of simple but much-needed solutions
such as bicycle ambulances can make a huge difference.
Having received the Rotary donation, Transaid was then able to apply match funding from a corporate donor, doubling the amount to £3000. |
Following a successful golf event last year, the Rotary Club of Canterbury Sunrise was, with the additional help of a District Grant, able to support the charity Transaid with a donation of £1500.
The money has
been earmarked to provide three bicycle ambulances in rural Africa, one of the
successful and sustainable transport related programmes operated by Transaid.
Having received
the Rotary donation, Transaid was then able to apply match funding from a
corporate donor, doubling the amount to £3000.
Each bicycle ambulance costs Transaid £500 |
Each bicycle ambulance costs Transaid £500, so with the help of Rotary District 1120, which covers Kent, East Sussex, and Gibraltar, the subsequent corporate match funding to Canterbury Sunrise’s initial fundraiser was multiplied several times.
Pictured is Past
President of Canterbury Sunrise, Berin Riley, handing over the donation at
Transaid’s London HQ to Florence Bearman, who initially provided a presentation
to the Kent club detailing the charity’s work.
Florence and her
team are keen to demonstrate Transaid’s work to any Rotary clubs who might be
interested.

Program Donations
Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.
Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.
We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.
As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
