Comments from our guests and members
Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?
The Power of Vulnerability.
Brene Brown discusses the power of vulnerability and human
connection. People today numb themselves
from being vulnerable by taking on forms of addictions to keep themselves from
feeling and having emotions and ultimately the fear of pain. In turn, they deprive themselves of happiness
as well.
She discusses how we have to allow ourselves to experience
both to be able to find those deep connections with one another.
-- Michael Thomas, RC of Stony Plain, District 5370
I liked the recognition of David Foster in Canadiana. My first memories of him are of his writing
and performance of the 1988 Winter Games (Calgary) theme.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
Empower and Girl, Change a Community. Very inspiring TED talk!
-- Tammy Waugh, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Food for thought
Consumption of Microplastics (dated June 2019)
Microplastics can range from visible pieces to tiny particles the size of cells.
Microplastics can range from visible pieces to tiny particles the size of cells.
A
study from the University of Victoria has for the first time compiled research
on microplastics to try to estimate just how much people are consuming.
The study found that a person's average microplastic consumption, based on the food items previously analyzed, is between 70,000 and 121,000 particles per year. People who consume bottled water saw that number increase. (Jonathan Hayward/The Canadian Press)
Microplastics
are pieces
of plastic that
are just under five millimetres in diameter — or smaller than the
size of a sesame seed — that come from the degradation of larger
plastic products or the shedding of particles from water bottles, plastic
packaging and synthetic clothes.
Garth
Covernton, a PhD candidate at University of Victoria's department of
biology, said his team looked at 26 papers assessing the amount of
microplastics found in individual food items.

Program Donations
Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.
Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.
We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.
As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
