Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

December 2, 2024. Great article on wetlands. I’ve spent lots of time in the past prowling around wetlands with a camera. They have a plethora of photographic subjects.
-- Patrick Gibson, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

December 18. One Man’s Fight against Polio. The story about the writer getting a mild form of Polio caused me to think about how fortunate I was growing up in England in the 1940s and going to swimming pools. I never realised that polio was endemic in England and Wales.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

New members' corner

Addressing the Vision 2030 membership conclave organised in Madurai, India, by incoming RI Director M Muruganandam, RI President-elect Mario de Camargo made it clear that membership should be the topmost priority of Rotary leaders at all levels, and went on to explain in detail the key and crucial terms and phrases in Rotary, which were often misunderstood.

One of his reflections was on three types of leaders he had encountered in Rotary. The first was “the leader who makes it happen, the second, who lets it happen, and the third type is the leader who is surprised by what happened. If we get leaders who are surprised by what happened, Rotary will have no future. We need leaders who make it happen.”

Rotary minute

Rotary Vocational Service is one of the five primary avenues of service in Rotary International, focusing on promoting high ethical standards, providing opportunities for skill development, and using professional skills to improve communities.

Here is a very short introduction:

1. Ethical Standards in Business and Professions

2. Recognizing the Dignity of All Occupations

3. Service through Professional Skills

4. Vocational Training Teams (VTT)

5. Supporting Education and Employment Initiatives

6. Promoting Ethical and Community-Minded Leadership

By promoting ethical practices, building skills, and serving through their professions, Rotary members make a meaningful impact on their communities and beyond through Vocational Service.

This service avenue is a key part of Rotary’s commitment to fostering ethical, capable, and community-focused leaders around the world.
