Comments from our guests and members
Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?
April 8. The 12 Neighbours project has been in the local Atlantic news quite a bit as a solution to our homeless problem. And from the same post, the hobby of a friend of mine in Lloydminster, AB, is bee keeping and when I visited him I had the pleasure of eating honeycomb.
April 1. The segment on knots from this posting brought back good memories from my Boy Scout years.
Neil Rogers, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
May 20. Something about which people may be unaware is that the Canadian portion of Niagara Falls is no longer eroding. My father worked on the project to reinforce the edge of the Falls with concrete.
If you ever drive south along Niagara Boulevard (from the Falls) you will see what looks like a dam sticking out in the Niagara River. It is a dam. It was used to "close" the Falls so the repair work could be done. All the water was diverted to go over the U.S. portion of the Falls.

Rotarian Doug’s addition for the July 1 meeting
Most of us have seen little libraries in our neighbourhood and as we travel around. Many Rotarians support and promote the idea.
In the tiny French village that we are currently in, there is one of the most creative uses of a wine barrel I have seen.
Enjoy!

In the mountains of Poland, 26 children traumatized by violence get a chance to be kids again
at Rotary camp
By Iuliia Mendel Produced by Monika Lozinska
Beneath the emotional scars of living in a Ukrainian war zone, Mykyta Berlet flashes the same mischievousness of any other 12-year-old boy headed to camp.
He wants to laugh, play pranks and on the last night of camp “We will cover everyone with toothpaste,” he says excitedly.
Mykyta and 25 other Ukrainian youths headed to the resort town of Zakopane in the foothills of southern Poland are naturally focused on fun. But their two-week respite organized by Rotary members has a higher purpose: To help the children heal and cope with the trauma they may encounter when they go home.
Each camper has a parent or sibling killed or injured in the fighting in Ukraine. Psychologists at camp will guide them along the way during an itinerary that mixes escape and therapy.
Olga Zmiyivska, a member of the Rotary Club of Kharkiv Multinational in Ukraine, has brought children to the camp for two years and has witnessed its impact.
“After the trip, they are more willing to make contact and open their hearts,” she said.
On May 6, 2024, NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio released a simulation showing the fall into a black hole. Watch that simulation here, with narration by EarthSky's Kelly Kizer Whitt, explaining what you're seeing as you plunge into the black hole. Hang on! It's quite a ride.
And for someone who might like food for thought on something a little more down to earth, have a look at this sport. Some of you may even consider this in the near future.
Enjoy!
