Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

April 20. Nice video of the Interact Club of Kuen Cheng High School, Malaysia and what they are doing.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

April 23. Great articles this week, especially enjoyed the articles on Cleft Palate surgery and future farming techniques.
-- Patrick Gibson, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

March 11. Let Curiosity Lead. I enjoy this format as you get to experience an entire meeting.
-- Rick Gibson, Strathcona Sunrise Rotary, District 5020

Maryam Banikarim (Life’s an Obstacle Course). Harsh realities from the Middle East- so much unnecessary human suffering. When will we ever learn? It brings despair to my spirit that the more things change, the more they stay the same, despite new coping mechanisms. Obstacle vs obstacle course is a reframe.
-- Velma Noble, Rotary Club of Calgary Heritage Park, District 5370

Environment

Credit: Patryk Kosmider/ Shutterstock

Southern England’s spellbinding, 95-mile Jurassic Coast is one of the world’s most famous coastlines. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and frequent movie set, the Jurassic Coast is the only place in the world that combines rock from the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods, resulting in a natural museum showcasing 185 years of evolution.

Shaped by the tides, winds, and time, the craggy coastline is not only visually spectacular but also a treasure trove for prehistoric fossils. Visitors can hunt for these fossils, visit the local museum, or simply soak up the grandeur of the landscape.

Regrettably, this natural wonder won’t be around forever — just as it was shaped, the coastline is always eroding, proof of which is seen in landslides and rock falls that can happen at any time.

Humour

New members' corner

Increasing a club’s membership can be easy if your club is “Irresistible.” However, consider your own club – and consider these 10 signs and symptoms of NOT being irresistible.
  • Nothing substantive has changed in a long time – rituals and culture have stagnated – lack of balance between “old” and “new”
  • New members don’t stay and/or guests don’t come back
  • Executive members don’t stay – no succession plan/weak governance
  • Members aren’t inviting colleagues, friends, and family
  • Minimal diversity within club – and no effort to address it
  • A very small group is doing too much – burnout and/or protectionist
  • Same old service projects – weak engagement/no variety or passion
  • Members not responding to requests for help or to serve on committees
  • No strategic direction or key focus – “a cause”
  • Community not aware of who you are or what you do – “best kept secret”
And if any of these apply, perhaps it’s -

Food for thought

...contributed by Rotarian Vicki

And here is a thought-provoking documentary, contributed by Rotarian Doug.

According to the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), tourism is a significant economic contributor for many countries, often ranking within the top five contributors to their GDP. However, the exact number can fluctuate based on changes in economic conditions, tourism trends, and how the data is measured.

As of recent data, it is accurate to say that a substantial number of countries rely heavily on tourism as a major economic sector, with approximately 80 countries fitting this description.

NOTE - The documentary is longer than one hour, so you might wish to set aside some time to view it at your leisure as a separate entity rather than as part of this particular Rotary Club meeting.

Keep your fingers poised to press SKIP to quickly bypass the numerous ads that populate the video.

It would be interesting to know your thoughts on the documentary. Click the link below.

Program Donations

Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.

Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.

We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.

As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
