Serendipity & Les Habitants: A Story of Riots,
Revolution & Rocket Richard
June 25, 2021It begins with a seemingly mundane fact: To get to the finals, the Habs won the Clarence Campbell Bowl for the first time in their 103-year history.
It's the first time ever because the trophy is normally reserved for teams from the league's Western Conference. But pandemic-driven rejigging meant the Canadiens — an Eastern Conference team — were placed in the Western Conference this year. And so, this was likely the only chance the Habs will ever get to win the Clarence Campbell Bowl — and against all the odds, as overwhelming underdogs, they actually did it.
So. That's pretty weird. But it's just the tip of the serendipity iceberg — not only because Clarence Campbell is a man with a particularly notorious connection to the Habs, but because yesterday was a particularly special day for a big Canadiens win.

Comments from our guests and members
Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?
May 7. Re the Town Hall with RI President-Elect Gordon McInally. I am looking forward to Gordon McInally's presidential year, he seems very open to change. For example to quote "And the secret is to tap into people's interests and to make sure that they're allowed to do things that they want to do."
May 14. The video, Pale Blue Dot, really puts things into perspective. The earth is a small stage in a vast cosmic arena.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
May 15. Excellent choice of speakers this week! Our family members experienced a tragic event last fall with Hurricane Fiona. Judy’s brother’s house was washed away. We were not prepared for forced camping.
-- Neil Rogers, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

This month's Rotary theme
And Rotary's theme for July...
July presents a chance for Rotary clubs and members to reflect on their achievements thus far and set new goals for the year ahead. It's a time to welcome new members into the Rotary family, foster connections, and encourage innovative approaches to address community needs.
With "New Beginnings" as the theme, Rotarians can look forward to exciting possibilities, forge new partnerships, and make a lasting impact in their communities and beyond.

For a small donation, your favorite musician will be featured on one of our next e-meetings for everyone to enjoy.
Every week we'll have a draw and the lucky person will see their song featured!
THIS WEEK - Neil Young - Heart of Gold
Neil Young, a highly influential Canadian singer-songwriter, has had a prolific career with numerous popular hits. One of his most well-known and enduring songs is "Heart of Gold." Released in 1972 as part of his album "Harvest," "Heart of Gold" achieved significant commercial success and became Neil Young's only Number One hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
"Heart of Gold" features Young's distinct vocals accompanied by acoustic guitar and harmonica. The song's introspective lyrics and melodic hooks resonated with audiences, making it a beloved and timeless classic. It has remained a staple in Neil Young's live performances and is often regarded as one of his greatest and most popular songs.

Program Donations
Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.
Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.
We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.
As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
