Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

Mental Health. Thank you for preparing the educational, humorous and inspiring meetings weekly.
-- Lynne Ternosky, Rotary Club of D6330 Passport

January 24. I loved the frozen hair contest, and as always the inspirational moment, and all the great information. The video on mental health was excellent as well.
-- Nance MacLeod, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

January 24. Learned something new at our meeting. Cliff Dochterman shared how the polio campaign came to be!
-- Sharon Blaker, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

January 24. Peer-to-peer counselling is a brilliant idea!
-- Vicki Horsfield, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

January 30. Thanks for showing the video of Gene Krupa playing Sing, Sing, Sing. It would be great if there had been a film of him playing with Benny Goodman's orchestra at the Carnegie Hall concert in 1938, for me the definitive rendition of Sing, Sing, Sing.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Announcements

This email is being shared with all Club Presidents, Club Foundation Chairs, Club International Service Chairs, Assistant Governors and the District Governor Team from Rotary District 5370. Please share with your individual club members and any other interested parties.

We have all heard about the horrible situation in Ukraine the past few weeks. The District Leadership team has heard from many Rotarians asking what we can do to help. We believe the best way to help is through the Rotary Foundation Disaster Response Fund. Please follow the link for more information about how funds will be used. The Foundation Trustees recently announced that all donations to the Fund between now and April 30, 2022 will be used for our response in Ukraine. Rotary Districts in and adjacent to Ukraine will be eligible to apply for the funds.

Your District Leadership team will match contributions made by D5370 clubs and Rotarians up to US$10,000 in total for all donations made before April 15, 2022. I will track the donation amounts but I will need the help of club Foundation chairs to do that. I am asking each Foundation chair to track the donations from your club (and members) and send me a note with the amount contributed. The District matching will come from our District Designated Funds.

Please Donate Here

Please send an email to Irene Makar at irene@dalcor.net to let her know (a) how much you have donated and (b) on what date so that we can have an accurate tally to report to District 5370.  Thank you!

Yours in Rotary Service

Tim Schilds, D5370 Rotary Foundation Chair

Food for thought

You've probably heard the soothsayer’s warning to Julius Caesar in William Shakespeare's play of the same name:

“Beware the Ides of March.”

Not only did Shakespeare’s words stick, they branded the phrase—and the date, March 15—with a dark and gloomy connotation.

It’s likely that many people who use the phrase today don’t know its true origin. In fact, just about every pop culture reference to the Ides—save for those appearing in actual history-based books, movies or television specials—makes it seem like the day itself is cursed.

Program Donations

Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.

Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.

We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.

As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
