Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

Rotary People of Action. The 10 videos are excellent in informing people what Rotary is and what it can do in the UK and Wales. Well done!!! Great information about what Rotary does and is for people to see the huge impact Rotary can make with domestic and international projects. Great info of Rotary in Action.
-- Michael Thomas, Rotary Club of Stony Plain, District 5370

January 3. Always enjoy the E-meetings!
-- Neil Rogers, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

January 3. Loved the Geography lesson and Don't Choose Extinction video. Lots of other inspirational and educational moments.
-- Nance MacLeod, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

January 3. I was very impressed with Lauren’s examples in a small jar of what she sees as her waste over the past three years. Her suggestions for buying with her own jars and making products she uses, plus researching how she can pass this insight on and make a living by doing this for others, is very impressive. And here I thought I was doing better trying to reduce waste and recycle what can be done. I will rethink how I buy some bulk items next, or what can be bought unpackaged and carried in my containers. Is this really possible? or have I become lazy? Great thought provoker.
-- Lynne Ternosky, Rotary Club of D6330 Passport

Humour

An armed robber walked into an estate agent's and shouted, "OK, no body move!"

It's annoying when people use big words just to make themselves look perspicacious.

I've just finished making shoes for a troupe of clowns - that was no small feet.

When I got divorced, we ended up splitting the house. I got the outside.

I've given up my job as a pantomime horse - I thought I'd quit while I was ahead.

INTERNATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF A ROTARIAN

As an international organization, Rotary offers each member unique opportunities and responsibilities. Although each Rotarian has a first responsibility to uphold the obligations of citizenship of his or her own country, membership in Rotary enables Rotarians to take a somewhat different view of international affairs. In the early 1950s, a Rotary philosophy was adopted to describe how a Rotarian may think on a global basis. Here is what it said:

"A world-minded Rotarian:

• looks beyond national patriotism and considers himself as sharing responsibility for the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace;

• resists any tendency to act in terms of national or racial superiority;

• seeks and develops common grounds for agreement with peoples of other lands;

• defends the rule of law and order to preserve the liberty of the individual so that he may enjoy freedom of thought, speech, and assembly, and freedom from persecution, aggression, want and fear;

• supports action directed toward improving standards of living for all peoples, realizing that poverty anywhere endangers prosperity everywhere;

• upholds the principles of justice for mankind;

• strives always to promote peace between nations and prepares to make personal sacrifices for that ideal;

• urges and practices a spirit of understanding of every other man's beliefs as a step toward international goodwill, recognizing that there are certain basic moral and spiritual standards which will ensure a richer, fuller life."

That is quite an assignment for any Rotarian to practice in thoughts and actions!

Rotary minute

The monthly themes are meant to highlight the wide range of Rotary’s good work and give clubs some suggestions, timing, and guidance for their programs and activities.

Clubs are encouraged to invite speakers to their Club meetings on the monthly theme, organize special events and activities that highlight the theme and raise awareness of the theme and of Rotary.

Food for thought
Briefly –

The country, spanning across Central Asia and East Asia, remains relatively untouched with rural families not just surviving but thriving in one of the world’s most barren landscapes.

Here are ten reasons why Mongolia is such an intriguing destination that deserves to be at the top of your travel list.

1. The endangered two-humped Bactrian camel is native to Mongolia

2. Mongolians are always ready for a guest

3. Ice-cream is a favourite winter treat

4. They have a festival dedicated to eagle hunting

5. The great Genghis Khan is Mongolia’s founding father

6. And there’s a whopping big statue that pays him tribute

7. Mongolia is big! But maybe not as big as you might think

8. Mongolia is home to endangered snow leopards

9. It’s the land where dinosaurs once roamed

10. More than one-quarter of the population live as nomads

Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.

We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.

As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
