April Focus - Maternal & Child Health

In many parts of the world, mothers risk their lives giving birth and millions of children die each year from treatable, preventable causes.  Rotary makes high-quality health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so that they can live longer and grow stronger.

Farah Alibay, 33-year-old Canadian from Montreal, working at NASA as a Systems Engineer for the Perseverance Mars Mission. She and her team of 50 have been controlling all the Perseverance’s movements on Mars!!!

What do you do for fun?
Like many engineers, I love being outdoors and go hiking and camping fairly regularly. I also enjoy weight-lifting and biking. Having grown up in Canada, I am an avid skier and a huge fan of ice hockey.

I am a Big Sister as part of the Big Brother/Big Sister (BBBSLA) program, and I also regularly participate in a variety of outreach activities, including giving talks, mentoring students, and teaching at space camp.

Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

Attended the board meeting on February 20, but also the weekly meeting, especially touched by Amanda Gorman. I don't believe I need another make-up but with Kitty putting so much work into the weekly meeting, I could at least take the time to read and listen to the meeting. I wished ALL members would do this.
-- Elly Contreras, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Thank you so much for using my contribution on The Nylons. They were an amazing group. And always a great overall program.
-- Jim Kenyon, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

I really enjoyed Jim Kenyon’s connection and background story to the "Nylons" whose music I recall. Music opens our souls, and it was wonderful to hear their music from the past and know the neighbourhood where it all began. Thank you for sharing.
-- Lynne Ternosky, Rotary Club of D6330 Passport

The facts about Lake Superior were most interesting and, although I have driven along the shore many times, were quite surprising. The fact that stood out to me was that there is enough water in Lake Superior to cover North and South America to a depth of one foot.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Amanda Gorman is just mesmerizing. I had to watch three other YouTube videos with her.
-- Jean-Michel Crepin, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.

We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.
