Comments from our guests and members
Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?
August 30. A simple way to break a bad habit. Excellent content this week. I learned about screws and especially enjoyed the Polio information. The more we hear about it, the sooner it may be eradicated, assuming that we react to the need for funding. BTW, I have no bad habits (LOL)
-- Elly Contreras, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
Fascinating history of Polio in the US. I grew up in Massachusetts in the middle of the epidemic and was in the first trial of children with the Salk vaccine. The history is painfully accurate.
-- Jim Kenyon, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
Fascinating film about the early days of Rotary. And I was really surprised at the variety of jobs that Paul Harris did after graduating, including cowboy and teacher before opening his law office. Proof of how well-rounded a person can become by travelling and working in various professions.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
How to break bad habits. I loved the sand sculptures!
-- Reme Marchen, Rotary Club of Kingston, District 7040
A simple way to break a bad habit. Meeting format is well organized and full of information and useful links. The speaker talk is a great reminder that as Rotarians we need to think more mindfully before we act.

Some Important Facts About Polio
***
That polio is a deadly disease is a given. But these facts should help you understand the disease further and make you aware of the importance of polio eradication day.
Polio spreads mainly through infected faeces, contaminated water (due to infected human waste), and can even spread from person to person through a cough or sneeze.
While a person of any age can fall prey to the disease, it mainly affects people with compromised immune systems, pregnant women, and children under the age of 5.
There are two basic patterns of the disease – the first type is a minor illness, called abortive poliomyelitis, which doesn’t affect the central nervous system (CNS). The second type is more critical, as it directly affects the CNS and may be paralytic or non-paralytic. In about 95% of the cases, the disease doesn’t show any symptoms.
Post-polio syndrome is also a part of the disease, whereby in some cases, polio survivors relapse after years of recovery.
In the case of those afflicted by paralysis, 5 to 10% of patients die if their breathing muscles also become immobilised.
Polio doesn’t have any cure, which is why prevention through vaccines is absolutely important, and babies need to be provided the same as per schedule. A single child being infected can put kids in all countries of the world at risk.
As of 2020, the Global Commission for the Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication has declared that the wild poliovirus type 3 is globally eradicated.
Since polio has no cure, there is no other way to stop its spread than to immunise your baby at the earliest possible. So ensure that you protect your baby’s life by providing him the vaccination on time, and in turn, do your part in reducing the transmission of this deadly virus as well!

Program Donations
Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.
Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.
We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.
As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
