Canadiana
Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Slocum ran away to sea in his early teens, eventually settling in the U.S. Between 1895 and 1898, Slocum became the first person to circumnavigate the earth alone. His vessel for this historic undertaking was Spray, a gaff-rigged sloop just over 11 metres long. Upon his return, he penned a bestseller called Sailing Along Around the World.
Slocum disappeared on a 1909 voyage and was presumed lost at sea.

Comments from our guests and members
Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring, and entertaining weekly meetings.
Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?
July 7. Cool headed girl at only 15 years old!
-- Vicki Horsfield, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
August 1. I found it interesting that two of the writers featured in Canadiana actually lived very close to each other. Robert Service and Pierre Berton both lived in Dawson City within a block of each other though they would not have known each other. Robert Service worked for the Canadian Bank of Commerce before starting his writing career and left Dawson City in 1912 and Pierre Berton was born there in 1920.
August 8. Very inspiring speech by Rick Rigsby. So many excellent quotes, particularly his father saying, "How you living?" And memorable ones, Mark Twain, “Don't let schooling interfere with education.”
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
August 9. What an inspiration from Rick Rigsby! Yes, I had to watch it twice and send it to my daughters. I had to watch it twice because he talked too fast for my slow brain and I did not want to miss anything.
-- Jean Michel Crepin, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370
TED Talk, Vaccinations. I always enjoy the music segment.
--Gary McLelan, Rotary Club of Campbell River (Noon). District 5020

Rotary clubs that achieve the goals listed in the citation brochure by the end of the Rotary year will earn a citation. All activities need to be completed, reported, and reflected in the Rotary database by 30 June.
Citation goals for 2020-21 can be found in Rotary Club Central. To achieve the Rotary Citation, review the 25 available goals, select at least 13, achieve those goals, then report your achievement in Rotary Club Central.

For a small donation, your favorite musician will be featured on one of our next e-meetings for everyone to enjoy.
Every week we'll have a draw and the lucky person will see their song featured!
This week - again from Rotarian Jim Kenyon
Jim writes:
During the pandemic, I’ve been having
fun looking at musicians on YouTube. This one appeared as a possible
fake, so I traced it. Using a technique known as Looping, it’s a great
example of what one person can do alone. No one to sing with? Just a girl
from Hungary and her computer - and one of the best. Brigitta Nági performs
as simply Nági and is about 18 here.

Program Donations
Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.
Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.
We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.
As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
