Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

Monthly Fellowship Assembly.  Interesting program, nice to see Rotarians from all over and to make-up at this time of Covid-19. A wonderful coincidence to be present for Janet Stead's Major Donor presentation.
-- Michel Gravel, Rotary Club of Kapuskasing, District 7010

I liked Amanda Schochet's TED talk with the encouragement to do something about the planet no matter how small you can make a difference.
-- David Werrett, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Benjamin Zander has two infectious passions: classical music, and helping us all realize our untapped love for it – one of the most powerful presentations I have ever heard - using humour to capture his audience along with music - a universal language.
-- Sharon Blaker, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

“I will never say anything that could not stand as the last thing I ever said." What an impossible goal! Could I challenge myself to do that for one day?  Thank you Benjamin Zander for sharing that thought from an Auschwitz survivor.
-- Jean Michel Crepin, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Karla’s piece on Rotaract.  Really enjoyed learning about Rotaract in Karla's piece on her experiences in Manila. I also loved the Toronto women doctors singing Rise, and the acrobat performance. Thank you for providing such a diversity of offerings in the meeting!
-- Andrea Chisholm – I am not yet a Rotarian

Rotary minute

Héctor Herrera was driving his father to José Tadeo Monagas International Airport in northeastern Venezuela when they approached a government food stand. Even at 5 a.m., the line was long. “I never thought I’d live in this misery,” Herrera’s father said. Suddenly a fight spilled out into the street in front of them as two men wrestled over a frozen chicken.

“At that moment, my father said to me: ‘Son, if you have the opportunity to leave, go,’” recalls Herrera. “‘I will miss you, and it will be difficult, but this is already as low as a person can live.’”

That was in the summer of 2015. A teacher, Herrera was 28 years old and a member of the Rotaract Club of Maturín Juanico. A city that boomed in the 1980s as the oil capital of eastern Venezuela, Maturín is now crippled by the country’s collapse — an economic meltdown that, for the people living there, is worse than the Great Depression.

According to a survey released in 2018, 9 out of 10 Venezuelans did not earn enough to buy food, and more than 17 million had fallen into extreme poverty. The BBC reported that desperate parents have been giving away their children rather than watch them starve.

Rotary Jukebox

For a small donation, your favorite musician will be featured on one of our next e-meetings for everyone to enjoy.

Every week we'll have a draw and the lucky person will see their song featured!

This week -  A virtual choir

“I left New York City on March 14, anticipating a short absence. The Brooklyn College Choir had been preparing for performances with the New York Philharmonic, and then that was gone. Arriving home in Iowa, I found comfort in playing the beautiful song from the musical Carousel, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’ "

"I embarked on collaborating online like so many others are doing. What started to fill the void of music collaboration has evolved to new meaning for me with the lengthened quarantine. Hopefully, the words, ‘you'll never walk alone,’ along with the visual of 300 people joining together offers the audience some comfort and peace during this time. Stay safe and healthy my friends!"
- Harrison Sheckler Brooklyn College M.M. '21 Piano Performance

A man is working at a nuclear power plant when disaster strikes. Carl Pillitteri spent the last 30 years servicing electrical generating stations around the world.

He now owns Penghu County Wind Energy Company, installing residential-sized wind turbines in an archipelago off the western coast of Taiwan, where he lives now with his wife and two children.

Four-way Test

To close the meeting, Rotarian Bryce Lambert recites the Rotary Four-Way Test of the things that Rotarians think, say, or do.

Program Donations

Our E-Club is a dynamic club comprised of ordinary working and retired people who acknowledge that Rotarians are people who are generous with their time and their resources.

Our club and the program you have just enjoyed, either as a member or a visitor, is funded only by donations.

We are developing ideas for fundraising with our members who are scattered across Canada, USA, Central America, and Europe, but we do need your help.

As you have not had to buy lunch or travel to attend this program, please make a donation of a minimum of $10.00, considering you're saving in time and cost in appreciation for the experience you have enjoyed.
