Comments from our guests and members

Members and guests attending our weekly meetings are very important to us. Based on your comments we are able to produce many more educational, inspiring and entertaining weekly meetings.

Following are some of the comments we have received. Would you please send us your comments?

I loved the Greeter message from Vicki.  It just goes to show the global impact of Rotary, and how it's important to wear Rotary pins, T-shirts, etc., to meet up with travelling Rotarians.

The new format and the material in the weekly meeting is excellent!
-- Rotarian Jim Ferguson, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Students improving Water and Sanitation
It was a happy surprise to see Vicki and Miriam as greeters.  I met Miriam several times in Stratford following her time as an exchange student and after she moved to Canada, and have not seen her since.  Great modern technology!

Also learned a great deal and updated my knowledge of Sudbury where we lived in 1969 and where my son was born.  I am so pleased to hear of great clean underground laboratory studying the black hole science of our universe from the meteorite.  Canada has many advances we know little about!
-- Rotarian Lynne Ternosky, District 6330 Passport Club

Students improving Water and Sanitation.
Great greeter message from Vicki.  I am a big Adele Fan. We tend to take water for granted. Good lesson.
-- Rotarian Elly Contreras, E-Club of Canada One, District 5370

Rotary Club members in Community Service
News from Jim and Jocelynne Ferguson at Alberta Highway 663.

Another group of local volunteers got together and did some spring cleaning at the Boyle Senior Citizens' Lodge.  That's the nice thing about rural Alberta.  People are very community-minded and help out whenever they can!

"Hopefully, I didn't leave too many streaks," says DGN Jim.

New members' corner

The world's first service club, the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois, USA, was formed on 23 February 1905 by Paul P. Harris, an attorney who wished to recapture in a professional club the same friendly spirit he had felt in the small towns of his youth.

The name "Rotary" derived from the early practice of rotating meetings among members' offices. This club met in rotation at the offices of the members, thus the name Rotary.

There are now more than 29,000 Rotary clubs with a total Rotary membership of over 1.2 million men and women, serving 172 countries.

As a Rotarian, you will be a member of a Rotary Club, which in turn is a member of Rotary International. The free world is divided into Zones/Regions, which in turn, is divided into territories within which a group of clubs are associated. These territories are known as Rotary Districts.

There are 502 districts in the Rotary world (172 countries). Our club is in district 5370 which comprises 57 clubs in northern Alberta, part of Saskatchewan, part of British Columbia, and part of the Northwest Territories, Canada.  We are part of Zones 24/32.

Zone 24.  Our RI Director for Zones 24/32 is Jeffry Cadorette.

Rotary International Zone(s) 24 & 32 is a four-country, two-language, compilation of Rotarians in Bermuda, Canada, France and the United States.

Rotary International is governed by a President and board of directors elected from all over the world. Annually, each District elects a District Governor and each club elects its officers and directors.

District Governor 2018-19.  Our current District Governor is Ingrid Neitsche.

RI President 2018-19.  Our current RI President is Barry Rassin from Nassau, Bahamas (District 7020).

The current Rotary theme for 2018-19 is Be the Inspiration.

...next Rotary year -

District 5370 Governor-elect (2019-20) - Tracy Vavrek (RC of Grande Prairie after Five)

RI President-elect.  The RI President for 2019-20 is Mark Maloney of the Rotary Club of Decatur, Alabama, USA.

The Rotary theme for 2019-20 is Rotary Connects the World.

...and in the near future -

District 5370 Governor-nominee (2020-21) - Our own Jim Ferguson (from E-Club of Canada One)  !!!

President-elect - Rotary E-Club of Canada One (2019-20) - Peter Denooy
